MEEOOWWW!!! CAT FIGHT!!! Ahh, the sweet sound of summer, I’m sure you must be thinking, “What does a cat’s meow have to do with the sound of summer?” Well let me tell you what it is like to live on my street. For starters, there are about a dozen houses on my street and every single one of them has at least one cat, if not two. Most of their owners, myself included, let their cats roam outside or in their respective backyards. Add to this the few feral cats that hang out on the block and you’ve got yourself a feline block party almost every evening. As I am sure most of you know, cats do not always play nicely so it sometimes gets pretty ‘catty’ out there (pretty punny don’t you think?) You don’t even want to know what it sounds like when, on the odd occasion, raccoons get into the mix, it’s chorus of screeches, scratches and scurrying feet.

One evening my cat, Mr. Mistoffelees came home with a pretty bad cut on his leg. At first I thought it was nothing but after awhile I realized he wasn’t feeling any better. Even though it was only an injury from a catfight I though I better take him to the vet to have him checked out. Cats can be difficult when trying to dress a wound so the vet said it was a good thing that I had come in. The wound wasn’t fatal but it did need medical attention and the vets at Willowdale Animal Hospital were more than happy to help.

Mr. Mistoffelees likes to go outside so I know I won’t ever try to turn him into house cat but I can make sure that all of his shots are up-to-date. It’s all about acknowledging the risks that come with having a cat that goes outside and taking seriously any wounds that he might get. I guess it’s just my way of playing it safe.
